Horizons #13: New achievements in ship conversions for Somec group

Disney Wonder in Cadiz and Queen Mary 2 in Hamburg become part of Somec refitting portfolio.

Disney Wonder

The Disney Wonder arrived in Cadiz, Spain last September 19th to receive several enhancements at Navantia shipyard. For the drydock of the Disney Wonder, Somec’s subsidiary in Miami, Navaltech llc, has just completed different maintenance activities, like the replacement of all the aluminium frame structure for the bay windows on deck 9, the renovation of the railings on the upper deck as well as the change of the glazing for the Dj Booth. Besides these actitivies, Navaltech carried out a thorough maintenance on all the balcony sliding doors, and restored the existing glass walls on other areas.

Queen Mary 2

A few months earlier, Somec performed another extensive glazing renewal project for another vessel, the Queen Mary 2, that received a massive makeover at Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. The windows on the fore part and along ship side were completely restored, while the pool area was upgraded with new doors and windscreens. The glass walls on the aft part received a maintenance treatment and the frames were completely restored, with new finish profiles. New sliding doors were designed and installed on various balconies, and many existing double hinged doors were reinstated to their original function.
